Stainless Steel Tool Wraps for In-house Heat Treatment. Steel foil wraps from Shop Aid are the best for helping you heat-treating your tools. They let you avoid using a Nickel-Chromium box packing or saw-dust covering while you carry out the tool hardening process. Therefore, the wraps are simple to use and highly efficient in in-house heat treating. There is no need of even giving a double-layer wrapping of the foil. You can simply cover your tool with the Ticronic Steel Foil Wrap and place it in the oven as usual to heat it. Tool steel foil wraps come in 321 and 309 variants. Type 321 annealed stainless steel wraps can be used at temperatures up to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas Type 309 wraps are apt for high-temperature heat treatments involving high-speed steel (HSS) tools. The Ticronic 309 Shop Aid steel wraps can bear up to 2250 degrees Fahrenheit. One of the main issues with heat-treating machine parts is scaling or decarburization. To remove scales, after heat treatment, machines usually require additional machining, which if not done can damage the tool or result in defects in the workpiece. So, if you could avoid getting scales in the first place would be better than removing them afterward. You can cover your tool with this Ticronic steel foil wrap to prevent scaling on tool surfaces while you do heat treatment on the tool. Shop Aid stainless steel tool wraps are available in 50' or 100' lengths, 0.0002 inch thickness, and 20 inch width for providing wider coverage. If you use the product properly, you can get an airtight thick covering over the tool, which highly enhances the heat-hardening process.
