Repair Damaged Screw Threads with Recoil Inserts. Out of the two basic types of helical wound inserts offered by Arconic Fastening Systems Recoil brand, the product category on offer is a free running insert with a standard female thread. The other insert category is a locking insert which provides a locking function for the female thread when the fasteners are installed. Recoil Inserts are helically wound screw thread inserts that are made from Type 304 Stainless Steel consisting of 18% chromium & 8% nickel. The SS wire is cold rolled into a diamond shaped cross section. It is ideal for use in precision inserts, quality high speed taps, repair damaged screw threads or creating strong new threads. In typical cases of thread and angle errors, there arises the problem of a limited contact point, poor flank contact between bolt to parent thread, unequal distribution of bolt load over engaged threads and failure of threaded components when loaded. Recoil inserts provide a larger diameter than the tapped hole and compress as they are installed. This helps in maintaining a maximum surface contact area with the tapped thread. As a result, Recoil inserts distribute the load and stress evenly over the assembly. Inserts are available in all standard metric and inch sizes and thread forms including UNC, UNF, BSC, BSW, BSF, BA, BSP, NPT and ISO.
