Reduced Shank Silver & Deming Drills
Reduced Shank Drills are commonly used to drill large holes when only a popularly-sized hand held manual drill with a small 1/2" or 3/4" chuck is available. The reduced shank diameter (also called a blacksmith's drill) is suitable for use in most drilling operations in a wide range of materials having low and medium tensile strength ratings. Special care should be exercised when using these drills to avoid bending or shearing the reduced diameter drill shank. For best results and longer tool life, use lubricating/cutting oil or coolant as recommended.
